I started working in geriatrics when I was 18 years old. It was the summer after I graduated high school, and I was hired as an activities coordinator at an assisted living facility. Soon I had my certified nursing assistant license and was working in a number of retirement homes and hospitals. With these jobs I was able to pay my way through undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University and head off to law school at William & Mary.
With this background, elder law seemed a natural choice. I understand the importance of planning for long term care and how these plans affect the entire family. Because these decisions are often difficult and overwhelming, you need someone there to guide you through the process. I am experienced with Medicaid planning, VA benefit qualification, asset protection, estate planning and administration, and other concerns specific to elderly clients. In addition, I help families through the probate process after their loved one has passed away. I perform estate planning services for younger clients and families as well, arranging personal affairs long before old age or unexpected tragedy occurs.
When I’m not at work, you can find me and my husband running trails in Newport News, hosting backyard movie nights for our friends, and wrangling in teenagers as youth group leaders at our church. I have been blessed with so many good things in my life, and it is my goal help you and your family take care of that which is important yours.

Jennifer did a great job in guiding me (executor) through the estate closure process of my parents. The process is confusing even when all goes smoothly. In this case, due to circumstances beyond our control, the process was even more difficult. She did a great job in both preparing the needed documents and in advising me of the steps I should take to resolve the issues that were unique to my case. I highly recommend Jennifer.
We were very satisfied with Mrs. Kahl. She was very professional and very patient. She thoroughly explained all the issues and answered every question and concern. We never felt the slightest bit rushed. We also appreciate that our package included a certificate for a free one-hour consultation for our representatives. I actually have already recommended her services to friends and family.
I was served by Ms. Kahl because she succeeded the lawyer who drew up my will circa 2003. I had dramatic life changes in a dozen years — divorce, remarriage, becoming a grandparent — and it was time to update my will. Ms. Kahl was professional and pleasant and I felt at ease during a significant transaction. Thank you.
Jennifer did an outstanding job in preparing requested powers of attorney for my husband and I and enabled them to be signed in a convenient location for our particular situation. I will definitely recommend her to anyone that I know who needs her expertise.
In early Spring we worked with Ms. Kahl to review and update our trusts. She was exceptionally competent and courteous. She was especially helpful in restating certain provisions of our trusts to bring them more in line with what our goals really were — we had somehow missed the mark originally in expressing them clearly. Overall, we were vey pleased with her professional services.
Attorney Kahl assisted us with estate planning. She helped us draft a will, durable power of attorney and .living will / advance medical directives. She was very thorough and clear while patiently answering our questions. She helped us decide if our situation would benefit from establishing a living trust. She worked with our scheduling constrants, allowing us to expedite certain documents and scheduled follow up meetings in a timely manner. All documents were prepared well in advance to allow us plenty of time to review the documents prior to signing. All necessary personnel were present when the time came for completion of the documents – notary public and required witnesses. Attorney Kahl is an extremely knowledgable, competent and professional individual. I was very impressed by her knowledge and highly recommend her to any one in need of her services.
Received excellent advice and preparation of documents. All of my questions were addressed and everything was completed within a very satisfactory time frame.
Ms Kahl put an estate plan package together for me that was exactly what I was looking for. She is not only knowledgeable but very pleasant to work with. I’m very happy with the results of my plan. I would definitely recommend her to others.
Attorney Kahl carefully reviewed our existing wills, my wife and I, and updated our plans for final arrangements after we pass. She made several important changes on how we will pass our final time and the disposition of our bodies after death. She clarified the roles of our two sons who will serve as Executors. She also recommended we acquire a safe deposit box for our wills and other important papers. She was highly competent, considerate, and sensitive to our needs and requirements. Well done.
I hired Ms. Kahl to help me get my estate plan in order, and to write a will that reflected that plan. She had helpful advice on how to accomplish my objectives and deal with contingencies in case one of my children were to die before I. It was a pleasure to work with her.
